Bob Spence, Executive Director
As Executive Director, Bob Spence is responsible for the overall management of Fort Ritchie Community Center, including day-to-day operations, finances, community relations, marketing, and long-range planning. Bob works closely with FRCC staff, instructors and volunteers to develop activities, programs and events to serve the local community. He reports to the FRCC Board of Directors, which consists of representatives of the community at large and PenMar Development Corporation.
Bob came to Fort Ritchie Community Center following a long career in the media, working as a radio and television executive and as a marketing and public relations consultant. Most recently, he spent 16 years at the C-SPAN television networks in Washington, DC. He also has an extensive background in the volunteer sector, including administrative management positions in the fire-rescue service. He served for many years as an EMT and firefighter. He currently is treasurer, member of the Board of Directors, and immediate past president of the Mt. Aetna Volunteer Fire Department in Washington County, MD; and he recently served as executive vice president of the Kensington (MD) Volunteer Fire Department in suburban Washington, DC. Bob is also a member of the Board of Directors of Friends of Safe Place (the Washington County Child Advocacy Center).
